Ida, Pingala, Sushumna: The Three Rivers of Prana

Imagine three subtle rivers. Ida (left, lunar, cooling, mind-oriented) and Pingala (right, solar, heating, action-oriented) weave around the central Sushumna. Most of daily life swings between ida and pingala dominance.

Why balance matters

When one side dominates for too long, the body-mind tilts: anxiety or lethargy, heat or cold, overthinking or restlessness. Kundalini work traditionally waits for a relative balance ΓÇö often felt as even nostrils and a quiet middle-spine awareness.

Simple daily check

  1. Notice which nostril is more open right now
  2. If right is strong for hours and you feel heated/aggressive ΓÇö cool with slower left-nostril emphasis and softer food
  3. If left is stuck and you feel foggy ΓÇö gentle walk, sunlight, slightly more active breath (never violent)

Bridge to sushumna

Alternate-nostril breathing (nadi shodhana) is classic. After a few minutes, rest attention at the spineΓÇÖs centre line. Do not ΓÇ£pushΓÇ¥ energy up. Invitation is enough.

I share the nadi section with students. Clear and non-dramatic.
